What is music? What role does it play in your life? Have you listened to most of it, or some of it? Is your hunger for more music is still on?
For many people, music serves much more than a source of entertainment. One can call music as lifeline, staple food, oxygen, travel friend, gym partner, walking companion, cooking buddy, relaxation source, and sleep guide. People say it's the best medicine for the mind. Mind is generally a place of chaos, it looks somewhat like a busy station or cluttered closet or office desk. If one doesn't clear things from it, it's difficult to add or keep more, be it ideas, thoughts or plans. For most of the humans, this is a difficult task, a notion that is rarely realized or practiced. If they do realize, they are clueless as to how to do it. You will agree that the thinking process is a loop mechanism, and most of the times, an endless cycle, which is very difficult to break. Experts and wise people have devised some methods to deal with it. Practices of Meditation, Prayers, Yoga, or concentrating on activities like exercise, drawing or painting, and listening to music are some of them. If you observe, most of these require some kind of training or initialization to reap the benefit, or in other words, skillset needs to be developed before we can use it in regular practice. However, listening to music is the only activity which do not require any training or skillset to practice. One can start any time, place, and age without any inhibition or difficulties. Most of you will agree that a decade back, it was still considered as something which requires time and resource investment like a good music player and a collection of great music. But, thanks to technology, it's not more an elite luxury. A person of any class, status or age can listen to good and varied kinds of music. Specifically, YouTube, music and internet radio apps like TuneIn has changed the whole picture of the music industry. No song is now out of reach, be it classic, country, blues, regional, international, or music of varied language, is within the reach of your click. I feel so thankful to the internet era, my constant search for different kinds of music has been met effortlessly by online sources. I realized that now I frequently listen to a range of music like English blues and country, retro French and Korean, Hindi, Punjabi, and Malayalam songs. When I travel to different places, I try to check the local music, and if I like it, it automatically enters into my song collection. On leisure says, I explore YouTube or music apps like TuneIn and do get one or two new songs to add. Every year, when I see my collection getting more enriched, I do feel great and proud, but it also makes me realize that how much more is out there in the world to still explore in music. As famously said music has no boundaries which I feel is true literally. What I have unearthed in the span of maybe twenty to thirty years seems to be a very small fraction of the enormous ocean of world music. I know, my search is on and will remain that way throughout my life, as this is my lifeline, travel friend, gym partner, walking companion, cooking buddy, relaxation source, and sleep guide; and above all, food to my mind and soul.
